Minister's Minute

On Wednesday people from around the world gathered at 11 a.m. to remember all who have served in the armed forces and paid the ultimate sacrifice.

It is important for us to remember these brave people, not only because they died in the line of duty, but for the values they fought for - for peace and freedom. From their service they fought for a better world for future generations. A world where freedom and peace reigns. A world where people live in harmony and where people are judged not by their culture, race or for who they love, but rather on their efforts in building and adding to the betterment of society.

A world where there is no more violence, no more unnecessary suffering and loss is a world that seems far away, even a fairy tale at times. The world we live in today is scary and volatile with a pandemic that knows no border. Our world is far from a utopia of freedom and peace at times.

But it precisely at times such as this, where our values and beliefs are threatened that we need to take time and remember. This is the time to re-commit our efforts and resolve for peace, equality, and freedom for all people; not just a select few. In this way, we remember too, the One who sacrificed his own life for these same values.
