Delta Ice hawks and goaltender Jordy Engelson will face the Ridge Meadows Flames on Sunday night in Richmond and the Abbotsford Pilots next Thursday in Ladner. Both games are free to the public.

Junior hockey fans can get a free sneak peak at the Delta Ice Hawks when they host a pair of pre-season games, starting on Sunday night.

The Hawks will entertain the Ridge Meadows Flames at the Richmond Ice Centre’s Forum rink at 7:15 p.m. It will be the back end of a home-and-home series that began on Friday in Maple Ridge.

Delta will also entertain the Abbotsford Pilots next Thursday (7:30 p.m.) at the Ladner Leisure Centre.

Both games are free to the public.

The Hawks open the Pacific Junior Hockey League regular season Tuesday, Sept. 3 when the Grandview Steelers visit Ladner.

On the heels of dealing veterans Alex Suprynowicz and Nick Marsh, GM and head coach Steve Robinson remained active on the trade front this week— sending forward Dario Esposito, along with signed prospects Sam and Ben Wasmuth, to the Surrey Knights in exchange for Truman Chiu.

The 19-year-old Vancouver native led the Knights in scoring a year ago with 26 points in 29 games, including 10 goals.

The moves don’t come as a huge surprise as Robinson suggested he would be changing the team’s chemistry following a disappointing playoff run last spring that saw the Ice Hawks become unravelled far too many times.
