Chief Wolsey, a Grade 7 student at Cliff Drive Elementary, didn’t seem overly fazed by the responsibility however, perhaps because putting out fires runs in his family. His grandfather, Randy Wolsey, was Delta’s Fire Chief between 1995-2001 before taking a new job in Edmonton.

The fire department’s latest Chief Wolsey began the day by meeting current Chief Paul Scholfield (and trying on the chief’s surprisingly dusty fire helmet) and Mayor George Harvie before heading out for an inspection of various Delta fire halls and some hands-on experience, including a hazmat demonstration and Junior Firefighter Challenge course training at Fire Hall 7.

Delta fire has been putting on the Chief-For-A-Day contest since 1985.
