Celebrate a long weekend of fun in the sun at the 47th annual Tsawwassen Sun Festival.

The Sun Fest will be jam packed with special events, games, friendly competition, food and entertainment.

Starting Friday night, you can hunt for your favourite antique treasures at the antique fair at the South Delta Recreation Centre. The antique fair also continues on Saturday.

Also on Saturday there will be volleyball and softball tournaments at Winskill Park, complete with food, music and a beer garden, as well as a skateboard competition at the South Delta Recreation Centre and bingo at KinVillage.

Saturday’s schedule will also include Legacy of the Arts Concert – a tribute and memorial to Natasha D’Agostino. The outdoor concert at Diefenbaker Park, being presented by the Delta Community Music School, will run from 3 to 9 p.m. and will feature music from friends and colleagues. The concert is a celebration of the life of D’Agostino, who was killed in a car accident in January.

D’Agostino will be presented posthumously with the 2019 Tsawwassen Sun Festival Mentor of the Arts Award on Monday afternoon. Dedicated to an individual who has devoted himself or herself to making an impact in the Tsawwassen arts community, the award has been presented annually since 2009.

Sunday’s events include the Sun Fest Mixed Open lawn bowling tournament at the Tsawwassen Lawn Bowling Club and the continuation of the slo-pitch tournament at Winskill Park. It will also feature a drive-in movie as the 1970s classic Grease will be shown on the grounds of Beach Grove Elementary with activities starting at 6:30 p.m.

Monday starts off with the Boundary Bay Lions Club’s pancake breakfast and continues with the classic car show, food, games and entertainment, including Delta’s Got Talent competition, and the playoffs and finals of the slo-pitch tournament, all at Winskill Park.

The Rotary Parade, which makes its way along 56th Street towards the park, begins at 11 a.m. on Monday.

Event coordinator Elaine Campbell said Sun Festival is always a great weekend for the community to enjoy.

“Our theme this year is celebrating local businesses, but of course it is all about the community and there is something for everybody throughout the whole weekend,” said Campbell. “It’s going to be a fun weekend and fingers crossed we have great weather.”
