The COVID-19 pandemic has claimed yet another summer time event in South Delta.

On Friday, Ladner Business Association (LBA) president Jill McKnight began sending out a letter to event participants and sponsors announcing the August event for this year has been cancelled.

“For sixteen years the Ladner Quilt Walk and Car Show has grown and evolved to make Ladner Village the perfect place to spend a Sunday,” said McKnight. “The combination of quilts and cars has drawn attendance of over 10,000 guests from around the Lower Mainland and Vancouver Island to enjoy the festival atmosphere and celebrate the artistry of the cars and quilts. The LBA recognizes the importance and value of this event to our attendees, sponsors, vendors, local businesses and the community of Delta.

“It is with heavy hearts that, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the LBA has made the difficult decision to cancel the 16th Annual Quilt Walk and Car Show scheduled for Sunday, Aug. 16, 2020.”

McKnight said that while we hope that B.C. will move through the restart plan and phases quickly, the message from Dr. Bonnie Henry is clear that the return to large gatherings likely will not happen until there is a vaccine available or herd immunity to COVID-19.

“As difficult as this decision was, the health and safety of every member of our community must take precedence,” added McKnight. “Thank you for your years of support towards this event. We wish each of you, and your families, continued health during this time. It is our greatest hope that next spring will find us working on a new 16th LBA Quilt Walk and Car Show scheduled for Sunday, Aug. 15, 2021.”
