Irish eyes will be soon be smiling at South Delta Baptist Church.

After a seven-year hiatus, the Delta Police Pipe Band is proud to host its Celtic Gala fundraising concert, which is set for Friday, Oct. 18 at 7:30 p.m.

The evening will include two hours of Celtic entertainment from the pipes and drums of the world-renowned Delta Police Pipe Band as well as the O’Brien Dance Troupe, Turas Harp Celtic group and the Delta Choral Society Choir.

The O’Brien Dance Troupe will entertain the crowd with jigs and reels as it prepares to compete the following day at a highly competitive feis.

Turas Harp (an Irish term meaning trip) is a newly formed Celtic group that features a combination of fiddle, guitar, harp, uilleann pipes, melodic vocals and, of course, the harp.

With some-90 members strong, the Delta Choral Society, under the direction of Danielle Hamilton and accompanist Paul Kemp, have performed throughout North America.

Leonard Zurkowski, who is handling media relations for the gala along with Randall St. Godard, said music fans are in for a real treat.

“We’ve done the Robbie Burns nights for years and the community is so supportive of that event and of all of these groups,” Zurkowski said. “It was just the right time to bring this event back. South Delta Baptist Church is the ideal venue – great stage and acoustics and we can accommodate a lot of people. We’ve had huge support from the business community throughout South Delta. It’s going to be a great show.”

St. Godard said the band held a Celtic Gala for four or five years in a row but it’s now been seven years since the last one.

“I’ve been an associate of the band for many years and I love being involved with this group,” he said.

Tickets are $30 for adults, with children 12 and under admitted free. Tickets can be purchased online at DPPBCelticGala2019.simpletix.com, on the pipe band’s Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/deltapolicepipeband/ or in person at Grapes4U (5101 Ladner Trunk Rd.).
