Burns dinners a huge success for Pipe Band

More than 800 attend events in Ladner

For the 46th consecutive year, the Delta Police Pipe Band honored Scotland’s favoured son and poet, Robbie Burns, by hosting their Robbie Burns dinners, this year to almost 800 guests over two nights (Jan. 24-25) at Sacred Heart Church in Ladner.

Performing under the direction of Pipe Major Steve Ramsden and Drum Major Moe Coll, the pipe band wowed the crowds with three performance sets, opening with stirring renditions of A Parting Glass and of course Mull of Kintyre.

The supporting cast included the usual suspects, the regimental dancers, the band’s singing group The Deltones and rounded out with the Thistlebrook highland dancers who delighted everyone with their elegant performances. Once again, the crowd-pleasing dance band, The Earthmen finished the evening with music that got everyone onto the dance floor, late into the evening.

On Friday night the band was honoured with the attendance of Delta councillors Lois Jackson and Dan Copeland, Delta South MLA, Ian Paton and his wife Pam and Royal Canadian Legion president Gerry Bramhill with his wife Gloria.

Likewise, on Saturday, the honored guests included Delta police Chief Neil Dubord and his wife Lorraine, Delta MP Carla Qualtrough, Pipe Major Andy Norton, Drum Major Scotty Bach and president Mark Jamieson of the Seattle Police Pipes and Drums and Delta’s Mayor George Harvie accompanied by his wife Gillian with the mayor sporting his new highland kilt.
