Golfers will hit the links later this month to help support families and youth with special needs.

On Saturday, Aug. 17, The Links at Hampton Cove in Ladner will be the site of the second annual Hampton Cove Community Open golf tournament.

A free family kids’ zone will include a bouncy castle, crafts, activities and special guest appearance by the St. John Ambulance therapydogs. The family zone will be open to all children in the community.

Organizing sponsors include Michael Lepore, Royal Lepage; Glenn Issler, JAM Mortgages; and Earl Francis, The Links at Hampton Cove. Dilawri Group is sponsoring the hole-in-one competition with a chance to win a new A Class Mercedes Benz.

The inaugural event in 2018 raised almost $9,500 for Reach.

More than 30 volunteers helped out day-of and tournament golfers reported that it was an enjoyable event.

“We are so appreciative of the tournament organizers for inviting Reach to be a part of such a heartwarming event that brings together both the children and adults of the community to share in this fun-filled and exciting day,” said Reach development manager Kristin Bibbs.

Lepore said it takes a team effort to organize such an event.

“Watching it grow as an annual event supported by the community is very exciting for everyone involved,” he added.

Issler said following the success of last year, he is excited to see the event grow even bigger this year.

“We have some amazing volunteers and community sponsors that we could not do this tournament without them,” he said.
