A pair of Ladner brothers is not letting the cancellation of the spring hockey season prevent them from working on their skills.

And they’re sharing that dedication with other youngsters via the internet.

Miguel, 10, and brother Cristian, 8, have created a handful of YouTube videos, with the help of dad Erick Phillips, on everything from stickhandling to crossovers to backwards skating, all shot while on rollerblades on the pavement at Hawthorne Elementary.

Erick says the idea started when Cristian got his gear for spring hockey, including home and away jerseys, but had nowhere to use it.

“That’s when he said, ‘Dad, can we play with all my stuff on?’”

The family then set up a variety of drills on the Hawthorne pavement and dad captured the action on his smartphone. They’re hoping by sharing the videos other kids will also keep their skills sharp and be ready when ice rinks reopen.
