Delta Hospital and Community Health Foundation has announced that Hanna Hansen and Amy de Ste Croix are the winners of its annual scholarships.

Each student was awarded a $1,500 scholarship at their respective commencement ceremonies in June.

Hansen, a Delta Secondary grad, was chosen as the recipient of the Delta Hospital and Community Health Foundation Scholarship because of her excellence in academics as a regular member of the honour roll and principal’s lists, leadership in athletics with the U18 Delta Heat fastpitch team and service to her community, including school clubs, Delta Special Olympics, Delta Fastpitch Association and 140 Sports.

She has chosen to pursue a degree in kinesiology and has committed to play softball at the University of British Columbia.

de Ste Croix, a Seaquam Secondary grad, was chosen for the Robert T. Reynolds Memorial Scholarship because she excels in academics and athletics as an honour roll and principal’s list recipient and member of school and rep volleyball teams as well as the U18 Delta Heat. She has also been highly involved in her community, volunteering with Delta Special Olympics and Delta Fastpitch Association and showing a passion for philanthropy as a volunteer and fundraiser with We Charity.

She plans to pursue a bachelor of science degree at Simon Fraser University with a major in behavioural neuroscience.

“On behalf of the foundation board and staff and the Reynolds family, I congratulate both Hanna and Amy on their exceptional accomplishments,” said Lisa Hoglund, executive director of the Delta Hospital and Community Health Foundation.

“We are honoured to celebrate these inspiring young women and help them in their future achievements. We were pleased to receive so many outstanding applications and wish you all luck in your academic endeavours.”

Reynolds was instrumental in having a hospital built in Delta.
