Four people are recovering in hospital Saturday after an early morning stabbing outside a Vancouver nightclub.

Police officers were called to the 1100-block of Granville Street around 3 a.m. for reports of a stabbing just outside Cabana Lounge.

VPD media relations officer Const. Tania Visintin said four people were stabbed and taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

There are no suspects in custody at this time and the investigation is ongoing.

Two years ago, 23-year-old Kalwinder Thind, died while trying to break up a fight outside the nightclub. He had recently started working at Cabana as a promoter. It was reported at the time that a fight has broken out inside the club in the early morning hours. The argument spilled onto the street and Thind was fatally injured when he stepped in to break it up.

Since his death in January 2018, his family has been vocal about the need to implement measures, including security cameras, on the Granville strip.

"My brother lost his life trying to help others make it home safely," Thind’s sister, Jassicka Bhullar, told city council back in February 2018, less than a month after her brother’s death. "The question shouldn't be whether or not improvements need to be made. The question should be when. The answer is now."

City council at the time had been considering a motion looking at having staff explore a series of changes to the Granville strip, including the immediate activation of surveillance cameras.

Council ultimately decided against installing cameras in the area.
