A 23-year-old man has died following a single-vehicle motorcycle crash.

The motorcyclist was heading south on Boundary Road near Rumble Avenue just after 2 p.m. Thursday when he lost control and was thrown from the bike. Bystanders performed CPR before paramedics arrived.

Investigators are working to determine the cause of the crash but police say speed appears to be a factor.

The man was a resident of Richmond.

At least two people will die in motorcycle crashes on B.C. roads each weekend this summer, if this year follows the same trend as last year.

There were 51 deaths related to motorcycle crashes in the province in 2018 — the highest number recorded in the past decade, according to a B.C. Coroners Service report released last week.

Prior to 2018, there was an average of about 35 deaths a year, ranging from 26 in 2012 to 48 in 2009. There were 34 deaths in 2017.
