Is there a talented young performer in your house?

Applications are open again for the noted Gotta Sing! Gotta Dance! Summer program, which is getting set for its 26th season at the Jewish Community Centre of Greater Vancouver.

The application deadline is April 1, and organizers have already begun to schedule auditions for young performers aged nine to 19.

The musical theatre summer camp, created and directed by Perry Ehrlich, brings together a faculty of professional instructors, including directors, musicians, choreographers and actors, who teach the young participants as they work through towards a final production – this year called Wild Wild West Side Story – that features an original script and a broad repertoire of music from Broadway and movie musicals.

Serious musical theatre students can once again take part in the Finishing School, with 10 extra sessions running from 3:15 to 5:15 p.m. that cover audition technique, presentation of songs, scene work and intensive dance workshops. There’s also a Boot Camp dance program for those who are new to dance or who want to refine their skills.

This year’s faculty includes director Chris McGregor, musical directors Wendy Bross Stuart and Diane Speirs, choreographers Jason Franco, Keri Minty and Meghan Anderssen, acting coach Amanda Testini, and Mariana Munoz, who leads set construction and costume coordination.

Session 1 runs from July 7 to 30, and Session 2 from Aug. 4 to 27. The camp runs Mondays through Firdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

It costs $775 per session for members, or $875 for non-members. Performers should apply online at www.jccgv.com by April 1 (a $50 deposit is required with application).
