This Saturday, Sept. 7, marks the kick-off of Rotary Club Burnaby Metrotown’s annual Coats for Kids campaign.

“With the help of numerous corporate sponsors, like the Burnaby NOW and Zeemac Vehicle Leasing, and the immense support from Army & Navy, our little Rotary club expects to deliver nearly 2,000 new or gently-used coats to children,” reads a news release.

This is the 19th year for the coats project.

People can bring their gently-used coats to any Burnaby Public Library or Staples stores in Burnaby (4265 Lougheed Hwy. or 5821 Marine Way). Many schools in Burnaby will also have collection boxes.

All donations are sorted by volunteers at Burnaby Neighbourhood House.

“The coats delivered on the Rotary truck are 'as new' because we want to make all kids feel special,” said a news release. “For the younger kids, we prefer jackets with hoods but for the larger sizes (adult), no hood is fine. All previously worn coats are dry-cleaned before distribution.”

Any jacket that is overly-worn, gets donated to other community service organizations.

For those who have no items to donate, but still want to help, they can make a donation - $20 buys a new coat.
