The street is also licensed for the event so you can enjoy a beer or wine while taking in all the action.

2. Pack up a picnic and some lawn chairs and take the family to Summer Sounds, a free, all-ages gathering at Ryall Park in Queensborough on Friday, Aug. 23 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Along with live entertainment by Tony Prophet, parks and rec play leaders will be on site. It’s free and takes place at the outdoor stage at 920 Ewen Ave.

3. Enjoy an evening of music with Bob Westfall, Moonlight Poet (and a surprise opening act) on Saturday, Aug. 24 from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. at 712C 12th St. Refreshments are available at this fundraiser for New West Artists. Doors open at 7 p.m. and tickets are $20.

4. Learn about the killer whales that swim along the coast and the conservation issues affecting them at Killer Whales of the Coast, an interactive presentation by the Ripple Coast Society. It’s on Sunday, Aug. 25 from 2 to 3:30 p.m. at the Queen’s Park band shell. No registration is needed. Info: www.ripplecoastbc.org.
