For the second consecutive year, the New Westminster Twins major A baseball team won the bronze medal at the 48th annual Hyack Little
League baseball tournament.
The tournament, one of the largest in Canada, hosted 16 teams from all over the Lower Mainland, including a team from Edmonton last weekend at Moody Park.
New Westminster's other major A club, the Royals, finished with a dominating 11-0 victory over North Langley on Sunday to end up with a 1-3 record overall.
The Twins finished undefeated, with a three wins and one tie, but due to
an aggregate runs scored system, the Twins just missed out on playing in the championship game, which was won by the Hastings White Sox 11-0 over the South Vancouver Red Sox.
The bronze medal game saw the Twins play a stellar defensive game with
outstanding pitching to defeat the South Vancouver Yankees 3-0. Kyle Gee hit a homer for the Twins and contributed on a three-hit, 11-strikeout performance on the mound along with Ryan Adamoski and Alan Chang.
In the opening game for the Twins, the Twins pounded the Coquitlam Giants 20-4 behind back-to-back homers from Ryan Adamoski and Gee. In the second game, Kerrisdale SGTC battled the Twins to a 2-2 tie in an exciting game. In the final game of the round robin, the Twins again turned up the offence and set down the Trout Lake Cubs, 11-0. Pitchers Adamoski, Gee and Chang combined for a no-hitter and 12
strikeouts in the game.
Besides finishing with the bronze, Adamoski also won the tournament's home-run hitting contest on Saturday afternoon. The Twins' slugger is the first local ballplayer to win the title since now major leaguer Justin Morneau accomplished the feat.
The Twins also got contributions from all players, including Liam Morrison, Justin Adamoski, Alex Lazecki, William Yang, Tyler Bolenback, Tylor Stajduhar, Connor Suffron, Nic Hagan and Mason Seganfreddo.
Coaches for the Twins include Dave Adamoski, Rocky Suffron, Shawn Hagan and Casey Lazecki.
