Last-minute loss too much like deja vu for Royals

If they didn' havet see the Capilano Blues again this year, that would be fine-and-dandy for the Douglas College Royals.

If they didn' havet see the Capilano Blues again this year, that would be fine-and-dandy for the Douglas College Royals.

The men's soccer team suffered a second last-minute loss to their North Shore rival, falling 2-1 on Sunday in a game decided by a goal in injury time.

It echoed their previous meeting, when Capilano tallied the game-winning goal in the 89th minute.

And yes, they have one more meeting -- Oct. 5 at Capilano.

Douglas College opened the scoring on Sunday, when Taylor Richardson deposited his first of the season past Nick Luongo at the 63-minute mark.

The Blues cashed iin the equalizer with eight minutes remaining in the game, as Royals' goalkeeper Felipe Domingos was handed a yellow card and Adrian Sagahun buried the ensuing penalty kick.

That set up the dramatic finish.

Prior to that, Douglas trailed frontrunning Capilano and Vancouver Island by a single point. They now sit third overall with a 2-3-1 record and four points back of the leaders.

On Saturday, MIlan Gandesha scored on a penalty kick in the 49th minute to lift the Royals past Langara.

Domingos stopped two shots in recording his second shutout of the season. At the other end, Douglas registered nine shots on net, with Falcons' netminder Aleks Kaladzic doing his best to keep it close.

The Royals now head to Nanaimo for a two-game tilt against the Mariners.
