What's happening in New West this weekend? Top picks for Dec. 13 to 15

1. Welcome Jolly Old St. Nicholas and friends to town at the 2019 Santa Parade on Sunday, Dec. 15 from 11 a.m. to noon on Columbia Street. Kids can stop by Anvil Centre (777 Columbia St.) from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Santa Claus returns to town in a parade in his honour. The 2019 Santa Parade is on Sunday on Columbia Street.

1. Welcome Jolly Old St. Nicholas and friends to town at the 2019 Santa Parade on Sunday, Dec. 15 from 11 a.m. to noon on Columbia Street. Kids can stop by Anvil Centre (777 Columbia St.) from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and write letters to Santa at the letter-writing station. The Greater Vancouver Food bank will be on site collecting donations of non-perishable foods.

2. Stock up on holiday treats at the Holy Eucharist Church’s annual Christmas Bake sale, featuring delicious Ukrainian traditional breads (kolachi), fresh pies, frozen perogies and cabbage rolls, Ukrainian sausage, borscht and more. It’s on Saturday, Dec. 14 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 501 Fourth Ave. Info and pre-orders at 604-720-0947.

3. Enjoy a holiday production of O Christmas Tea at Massey Theatre on Saturday, Dec. 14 at 7:30 p.m. This all-ages show is a funny tale of friendship and imagination, revolving around a Christmas wish for tea. Info and tickets at www.masseytheatre.com.

4. Head to Fraser River Discovery Centre for Gifts from the Fraser, featuring family-friendly events including a communal art project, a wintry photo booth, holiday games and activities and more. It’s on Saturday, Dec. 14 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 788 Quayside Dr. Free with admission to Discovery Centre.

5. Celebrate the first anniversary of the New West Artists Gallery on 12th at its holiday open house on Saturday, Dec. 14 from 1 to 5 p.m. The gallery is at 712C 12th St.  If you can’t make it today, pop by the gallery (no admission) Thursday to Sunday from noon to 6 p.m. 

6. Bundle up and head to the holiday edition of Fridays on Front on Saturday, Dec. 13 from 5 to 9 p.m. Food trucks, a New West Craft holiday artisan market, family-friendly activities, music are part of the evening’s fun. You can buy mulled wine by Pacific Breeze Winery and beer by Steel & Oak to sip as you browse through the market. It’s happening on Front Street under the parkade.

7. Travel back in time when Christmas With Sinatra hits the stage at Massey Theatre on Friday, Dec. 13 at 8 p.m. Part of the Legends Concert Series, the show includes an evening of classic Sinatra Christmas hits (performed by Dane Warren) and storytelling. 8. Check out Touch of Winter, the New West Artists’ free exhibition at the Plaskett Gallery at Massey Theatre, on until Dec. 22. The gallery is open Tuesday to Saturday from 1 to 5 p.m. and during all performances at the Massey Theatre.
