Spill a dirty little secret and enjoy some comedy in New West

Dirty Little Secrets Improv night returns to the Columbia Theatre for another night of laughs inspired by audience secrets, Oct. 25

There’s a great improv show coming to New Westminster – but you’ll have to spill a secret to get in.

The Dirty Little Secrets Improv night is on at the Columbia Theatre on Friday, Oct. 25. Doors open at 7:30 p.m. for the 8 p.m. show.

To get in, everybody must spill a secret; secrets must be true, and they must be yours to spill.

Don’t worry, though, nobody will know it’s your secret.

Not sure what kind of secret to share? The event organizers throw out such gems as “Candy makes me gassy,” “I’m a Sabrina the Teenage Witch super fan,” and “I’m afraid of kittens.”

Audience secrets will then be used as fodder for a night of comedy featuring some of Vancouver’s best improv comedians, including Vancouver Theatresports stars and instructors.

A press release bills the show as “officially the cheapest effective therapy in North America,” offering the following strategy to audience members:

  1. Share a secret anonymously.
  2. Remain composed when it is selected.
  3. Laugh uncontrollably when that secret inspires the hilarity on stage.
  4. Try not to show too much relief/joy when the scene ends.
  5. Enjoy the best sleep of your life.

The show was created by co-producer Dan Dumsha in New York, where it has been running monthly in the East Village for five years. In Vancouver, it ran in the West End for three years before moving to New West in August after the original venue closed down. The producing team of Dumsha and Ed Forrester has also produced shows in Dublin, Ireland and Melbourne, Australia.

The show is committed to showcasing diverse voices within the improv community.

Tickets are $20, with a $5 off discount if you use a special Record reader promo code, 4THERECORD, up until Oct. 25.

While you’re at it, save the dates for the next couple of Dirty Little Secrets Improv nights: future shows are set for Saturday, Nov. 16 and Thursday, Dec. 12 at the Columbia, 530 Columbia St.
