If the holiday season has you looking like this, you may want to consider a Festivus for the New West of Us intervention.

If the holiday season finds you up to your eyeballs in stress, they have a cure.

Join a group of local comics, authors and celebrities at Festivus for the New West of Us, a free comedy show that’s part of the Anvil Centre’s Winter Celebrations. It’s on Friday, Dec. 20 at 10 p.m.

The performers will be “airing their grievances” about the pressures of Christmas and its commercialism.

The host for the evening is Jan Bannister, owner of Laughter Zone 101 and a regular on the local comedy scene.

She’s joined by a roster that includes Susete Helena, “who is as neurotic as she is honest”; Erin Jeffery, who recently appeared with Royal City Musical Theatre in Singin’ in the Rain and finished in the Top 10 of the CBC Next Up Comedy Competition in 2019; Tania Taylor, who will share her love of Christmas and her hate for customers; and Sam Wang, who describes himself as “the chunky, funny, Asian comedian.”

You’ll also hear from Randii Andii, “a musical comedian with a brilliant mind and a dirty mouth,” and Nic Enright-Morin, who feels the only good thing about Christmas is that it gives her an excuse to buy gin in bulk for all her “visitors.”

Also on the bill will be Linda Cullen – the CBC personality who, along with Bob Robertson, created Double Exposure. A New West resident, she has also published a book called 5,378 Tips for a Better Life, Hotter Sex, Fresher Breath, Thicker Hair, Thinner Thighs and Cleaner Laundry (Not Necessarily in That Order).
