It’s back.
New Westminster’s fringe theatre favourite, Way Off-Broadway Wednesdays, has returned for another season at the Heritage Grill’s back room.
The season starts Wednesday, Oct. 9 with Come Alive, a reading of a new comedic solo show by Dana Schindel. The show, which deals with Schindel’s journey after the unexpected death of her father, is described as a “poignant and humorous tale of practising vulnerability, faking it till you make it, and striving to become the essence of bacon.” It will be followed by a talkback session.
On Wednesday, Oct. 16, New West Story Slam returns. The event is held regularly on the third Wednesday of the month and features a diverse panel of storytellers who share an array of original short tales. For $5, you get a ballot to vote for your favourites and determine prize winners.
On Oct. 23, fringe favourite Al Lafrance returns with Is This Yours? Fresh from a successful premiere at the Edmonton Fringe this summer (in fact, the Edmonton Journal described it as “simply one of the best shows of the year”), Is This Yours? is described as “a hitchhiker’s guide to humanity that explores the surprising ripple effects our stuff leaves behind for strangers to find, cherish and claim.”
On Oct. 30, you can enjoy what’s billed as “the freakiest improv you’ll ever see” with Whose Afraid of the Dark Anyway? – “one haunting hour of spine-chilling, knee-slapping entertainment all based on your suggestions,” as a press release says.
All shows start at 7 p.m., and doors open at 6:30 p.m.
