Patrick Street Productions has earned multiple Jessie Award nominations for its 2019 production of Herringbone, which played at the Anvil Centre Theatre in September and October.

Nominations for the 38th annual Jessie Awards, which recognize the outstanding achievements of the Vancouver professional theatre community, were announced in a Facebook Live-streamed party on Monday night (June 8).

Performer Luisa Jojic earned a nomination for Outstanding Performance by an Actress in Leading Role – Small Theatre for her star turn in the show’s single role (or, in fact, multiple roles played by a single actor). Peter Jorgensen earned a nomination for Outstanding Performance by an Actor for the same role. (The two starred in alternating performances in the one-person cabaret musical by Canadian playwright Tom Cone.)

Kayla Dunbar earned an Outstanding Direction nomination for her work on the production, and musical director Sean Bayntun is up in the Significant Artistic Achievement category for his musical direction.

The show also emerged with a nomination for Outstanding Production – Musical (Small Theatre), in which it’s up against Raincity Theatre’s production of Company.

Jorgensen and Katey Wright are the husband-and-wife team that founded Patrick Street Productions and are its artistic producers. Wright, also a performer, is part of an ensemble nomination for Significant Artistic Achievement for her work in Company.

Other New West residents also earned honours.

Christina Sinosich is nominated for Outstanding Costume Design, alongside Donnie Tejani, also for Raincity’s Company.

In the Theatre for Young Audiences categories, local performers Paige Fraser and Kelli Ogmundson captured Outstanding Performance nominations.

The Jessie Awards show will be held virtually and streamed on Facebook Live and YouTube on Monday, June 29 at 7 p.m. For full details, see www.jessieawards.com.
