Wednesday, Nov. 27

The New Westminster Council of Women is holding is final meeting of 2019 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the second floor lounge of Wesley Manor, 815 Kennedy St. While it’s primarily a women’s organization, everyone is invited to join the group in packing gifts, singing carols and enjoying some seasonal goodies. Guests are encourage to bring a plate or container of festive treats to share. Attendees will be packing Shoe Box Gifts for the women at Monarch Place, a transition house for women and children who are fleeing domestic violence. Please bring an assortment of small gift items for women (loose or packed in a shoe box), such as personal-sized toiletries and hygiene items, coffee and tea, makeup, mitts, scarves, hats, socks and underwear. One of Canada’s oldest women’s organizations, the organization’s goal is to empower women and to improve the lives of women, families and communities.

Friday, Nov. 29

Falls Prevention Mobile Clinic, in collaboration with Fraser Health Injury Prevention and Assessment Team, 11:15 a.m. to 6 p.m. at IMPACT Parkinson’s Centre #103-450 East Columbia St. In this free 90-minute assessment session, participants have the opportunity to sit with health professionals (pharmacist, kinesiologist and physiotherapist). Aspects of fall risk status will be assessed and interventions discussion, with a detailed report of all the recommendations provided to the participant and sent to their primary physician. Find Me a Sanctuary, a music and mindfulness self-care workshop for those coping with illness, grief and loss. Ideal for caregivers, health-care workers and volunteers. Taking place at the Aboriginal Gathering Place at Douglas College, 1:30 to 5 p.m. Cost $10. Info and registration at www.campkerry.org.

DeafBlind Planning Committee is hosting its 23rd annual Christmas Craft Fair, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at River Market, 810 Quayside Dr. Featuring 16 tables of unique and one-of-a-kind gifts, decorations and stocking stuffers. Items are handmade and some pre-made with love and care by artists who are deaf, deaf blind and allies. All money raised will support the deaf-blind community’s goal of providing interveners for the deaf blind.

Saturday, Dec. 7

Knox Church Christmas sale, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., 403 East Columbia St. A variety of vendors will be selling crafts and products for gift giving. Santa will be attending. Also includes a Cookie Walk, where participant chose homemade cookies to buy and take home. Free admission.

ACTIVAQTOR Pole workshop, 11 a.m. to noon, IMPACT Parkinson’s, 103-450 East Columbia St. Learn about the benefits of using ACTIVATOR poles for Parkinson’s or anyone with balance issues and how to effectively use the poles.
