The Group of Five and Friends Benevolent Society’s latest donations to Royal Columbian Hospital are being put to good use.

Through its 2019 fundraising campaign, the New West-based charity was able to purchase equipment for the ICU and Emergency departments at Royal Columbian Hospital.  The donations, which were recommended by the Royal Columbian Hospital Foundation, include a cerebral oximetry EEG for the ICU department and a Code Blue Team Lifepak monitor.

“Both pieces are critical to ICU and Emergency frontline workers,” said a news release from the Group of Five.

The group also partnered with New West Rotary to revitalize the breast imaging department’s reception room, which received new chairs, tables, artwork, a 32-inch television and a fresh coat of paint.

“Thanks to the generosity of the local New Westminster Rotary Club #153, we were able to expand our impact at RCH to include some much-needed renovations,” said James Crosty, president of the Group of Five.

Founded in 2004, the Group of Five holds a variety of fundraisers and buys equipment and incidentals for the Royal Columbian Hospital.

“Thanks to the generous support of our charitable donors, both personal and business, the G5 realized a tremendous 2019 fundraising season,” said a press release from the Group of Five.

‘Tis the Season, held in November 2019, and Spring is Right Around the Corner, hosted in May 2019, raised funds for the latest purchases for the hospital.

Due to COVID-19, the Group of Five’s spring event was cancelled.  The charity welcomes donations, and believes its efforts to purchase equipment for Royal Columbian Hospital is needed now – more than ever.

“We will all be together at our scheduled fall 2020 event – see you there,” said Gerda Suess, co-founder and treasurer of the Group of Five. “Meanwhile, please donate today to the Group of Five – thank you.”
