The owner of Oak Bay Home Hardware is back at work but feeling sore after being attacked during a daytime theft Wednesday.
Deanne Sharp said it is hard to keep her husband, Craig, away from the store.
“The bottom line is a concussion, which has caused a little bit of memory loss, stitches on his face and then a broken rib,” she said. “He seems fine.”
Sharp said she is keeping an eye on him.
“I’m just making sure doesn’t lift anything heavy.”
Victoria police were called to the store to deal with a report of an assault, which Sharp said took place when her husband intervened after spotting someone trying to steal items.
She said there was a pushing match and Craig was thrown against the front counter, then knocked down outside.
His injuries required hospital treatment.
The man fled after the attack. Police said he was accompanied by a woman and might have left in a taxi.
A second person was also assaulted during the altercation but did not need medical attention.
The suspect is white and was wearing a black ball cap with a yellow rim, a Pittsburgh Steelers jersey with the number seven on it, grey baggy jeans and black sneakers with white soles.
