Active cases of COVID-19 remained below 200 in Northern Health for a second day, according to number issued Thursday by the B.C. Centre for Disease Control a the count declined by two to 195 from the day before.

However, hospitalizations held steady at 18 with seven in intensive care. And 25 new cases were reported, five more than on Wednesday.

No new COVID-related deaths were reported for the region, keeping the total on that front at 140 since the pandemic took hold.

Province-wide, hospitalizations declined to 503 after hitting a record 515 on Wednesday, while 178 were in intensive care, up by seven.

One new COVID-19 related death was reported, for a total of 1,577 deaths in British Columbia. 

In a joint statement, provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry and health minister Adrian Dix continued to preach good practice as the vaccine rollout continues.

"With or without a vaccine, we all need to continue to hold steady with our individual efforts - sticking with our layers of protection, staying small and local, and following all of the orders in place," they said.

"Your efforts, kindness and resilience are what will make the difference for all of us to get through this pandemic together."
