A COVID-19 outbreak blamed for six resident deaths at Sunset Lodge seniors home is over.

Fifteen staff and 21 residents tested positive in the outbreak, which was declared Aug. 27.

Island Health said Friday that restrictions imposed during the outbreak are now being phased out — social visits on the first and second floors resumed Friday, and will resume on the third floor on Monday.

Admissions and transfers will also resume on Monday, and residents will be able to move around the home.

All infection-prevention measures, including use of personal protective equipment, remain in place, said the health authority.

“Island Health extends our deepest condolences to the family, friends and care staff of those who passed away,” Island Health said in a statement announcing the end of the outbreak.

Sunset Lodge, at 952 Arm St. on the border of Esquimalt and Victoria, is owned and operated by the Salvation Army.
