Kamloops wineries scoop up 17 medals at national competition

Three Kamloops wineries took home a share of 17 medals from the 2020 All Canadian Wine Championships, held in late July.

Monte Creek was the big winner, with its most notable award being Best White Wine of the Year for its 2018 Reserve Riesling.

Other winners include Harper's Trail (Gold: 2019 Rose, 2018 Cabernet Franc; Silver: 2019 Pinot Gris) and Privato (Gold: 2017 Woodward Collection Merlot; Bronze: 2019 Gewurztraminer, 2019 Pinot Gris).

Monte Creek's other wins include gold medals for its 2018 Varietal Series Riesling, 2017 Hands Up Red, 2018 Reserve Chardonnay, 2018 Varietal Series Chardonnay, 2019 Hands Up White, 2019 Rose, 2018 Cabernet Franc and silver medals for N.V Split Decision Blueberry Grape Sparkling, 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve and 2017 Cabernet Merlot.

The All Canadian Wine Championships began in 1981 and this year, judged 805 wines from 130 wineries across Canada. The bulk of those entries were from B.C. (545) and Ontario (203).

Privato sister company Woodward Cider Co. also picked up two golds for its Hang Time peach cider.
