Sunshine Coast Minor Hockey Association’s first-ever all-girls hockey team blasted their opposition 18-1 at their opening game on Oct. 5. The pre-season game is one of several that will determine which tier they compete in during the regular season, which starts in November. Supporters, including the Blues’ Midget boys pictured behind the team, watched the Saturday game. This weekend, the female Atom team will compete against the Richmond Ravens in Gibsons, with the puck dropping at 12:30 on Oct. 19. On Sunday, the team will be giving the owners of the McDonald’s franchise in Sechelt a jersey to thank them for becoming the program’s first platinum sponsor, donating $3,000 for the girls program.
