Coasters helping Coasters

Letters

Editor:

For 47 years, Sunshine Coast Community Services has been supporting those in need on the Coast. Today those needs are more urgent than ever. For many, today’s uncertainty is unsettling and stressful. It also brings emotional, physical and financial burdens no one should have to bear alone.

We would like to express our heartfelt appreciation to the volunteers and staff of Community Services for continuing to ensure that our most vulnerable are not alone. Launching a hotline to connect to families and adapting processes at the Food Bank to meet health requirements while remaining open are just a couple of examples of how our dedicated team is continuing to find creative ways to serve our community. While we have had to close many of our physical facilities at this time, access to services and support remains available and we encourage anyone needing support to go to www.sccss.ca and click on COVID-19 Update for the most current information.

We also want to thank the many organizations and individuals on the Coast who have offered their time, energy and resources to help their fellow Coasters. Working together with diverse partners, including the shíshálh Nation, the Sunshine Coast Credit Union, Persephone Brewing and local government, we can all amplify our impact.

This spirit of collaboration, evident in responses from across the Coast, is at the core of Sunshine Coast Community Services’ operating beliefs – something we are committed to well beyond the current pandemic.

Caring, commitment and flexibility are qualities we need in abundance now. We encourage everyone to get involved in continuing the tradition of caring on the Coast. Check on a neighbour, volunteer your time, donate funds or thank a frontline worker. We can each make a difference.

Sue Anne Linde, Chair, on behalf of the SCCSS Board of Directors
