Mixed martial arts fighter Mike Brackett was in Coquitlam on Saturday, Nov. 16, battling Phil Lauzon for the 175-pound welterweight amateur division belt.

Brackett was well supported with his Sunshine Coast entourage, who travelled to the Hard Rock Casino for the Battlefield Fight League MMA title bout.

Brackett has had prior success in Washington State and went into this fight undefeated after five matches. This was Brackett’s first time back in the ring after two years. However, his expert coaching from Bellators’ featherweight world champion Julia Budd and former Bellator MMA fighter Lance Gibson honed his technique, while he punished himself with his gruelling gym regimen, and his day job bundling booms on Howe Sound didn’t hurt either.

The fighters pounded each other for almost the full four rounds, but ultimately Brackett’s cardio seemed to prevail, as he was able to get Lauzon’s back to the mat and win his match, and the belt, with a TKO.
