Another Squamish local is out of commission due to a dramatic traffic accident.

Cliffside Cider's co-owner and chief cider maker Boyd Folkard was in a serious three-car collision on Nov. 12, near Porteau Cove, which resulted in him having to be cut out of his vehicle.

He suffered multiple broken bones including his collar bone, sternum, ribs, and vertebrae. He also suffered a lacerated spleen and liver, according to friend Emma Gizzarelli, who has organized a Go Fund Me campaign, "Help with recovery for Boyd" to assist with his unexpected loss of income and extra expenses.

Squamish realtor Nicole Musgrave was in a serious accident on Nov. 8 and there is also an ongoing online campaign to help her financially while she recovers.

Folkard is home from the hospital, but currently on bed rest, and has voiced concerns about his business and possible financial burdens, Gizzarelli told The Chief on Sunday.

She describes her friend as "a very kind, and gentle person, who is always willing to lend a helping hand. He has touched so many people in our town, mostly stemming from his love for cider making, but also with his contagious laugh, his ability to listen and support you whenever needed. [He's] one of the things people love about Cliffside Cider," she said.

In addition to being a local business owner, Folkard works full time in Vancouver at BC Children's hospital, work he is currently forced to take time away from due to the accident.

"I would like the money to be raised to help him with his personal financial needs — rent, food, bills — while he is out of work, and any transportation costs that may incur while he is without a vehicle," Gizzarelli said.
