Powell River’s Pacific Region International Summer Music Academy (PRISMA) is the recipient of three provincial grants totalling $56,375. The funding is part of the BC Arts Council grant program.

“PRISMA contributes so much to our thriving arts scene and reflects the vibrancy of our community,” said Powell River-Sunshine Coast MLA Nicholas Simons.“These grants will help support all the events that PRISMA offers, from the master classes to the concerts. This is very welcome news for the Sunshine Coast."

The money, which will go toward operating expenses and new instruments, is part of the province’s commitment to doubling spending in the BC Arts Council over four years, according to a media release. More than $9.8 million in funding through 394 grants in more than 50 communities in the latest round of funding has been administered by the arts council. Part of its mandate is to increase funding to traditionally underserved groups.

“The BC Arts Council’s renewed strategic vision focuses on strengthening arts and culture funding opportunities for all the people of BC,” said BC Arts Council chair Susan Jackson. “Not only are we supporting more artists and organizations than ever before, we’re focused on making sure groups not previously funded have access to our grants.”
