Coastal Community CrossFit recently took over the old Sluggers Gym in Gibsons and, after a series of renovations, officially opened its new expanded facility at 1161 Sunshine Coast Hwy. (Unit #5).

“The new space is fantastic,” said coach Milan Fraszczak. “We’ve been able to expand our services with more classes and one-on-one personal training. We’ve also created a fun area for children to play while parents work out. This is a big step up from the old facility.”

It has been over two years since Fraszczak and partner Arista Hawkes opened CrossFit in Gibsons. Now, with a strong community of over 150 members – representing an eclectic mix of Coasters – they have outgrown their first home.

“Leaving the old space was bittersweet,” Fraszczak said. “At the end of October, we gathered for our final workout in a place that was a second home for many of us. We grew, transformed and evolved in that space. We became family there. We danced, cheered, cried and witnessed occasional air guitar solos.”

Fraszczak calls the move the beginning of an exciting new chapter. “As we make this transition, we will build on a rock-solid foundation of commitment, consistency and community.”

On Jan. 25 (11 a.m. to 3 p.m.), Coastal Community CrossFit is hosting an open house. The public is invited to come and meet the coaches, watch local athletes compete, sample some classes, and learn more about functional movement. There will be membership discounts, a free raffle, and Salt and Swine will be serving up tacos.
