Julie and Carli Kennedy live in Nashville and Victoria now, but Powell River will always remain close to their hearts. That’s why the performers are looking forward to holding the official release party for their new album in their old hometown on May 22, 2020.

“Powell River will always be home,” said Carli. “Our family has moved away, but there are still a lot of people here who feel like family. It means a lot to us to have the community’s support, and that’s one of the reasons we’re coming back to do the album release.”

The sisters perform as Twin Kennedy, and the fiddle- and guitar-playing singer-songwriters have become celebrated in the country music scene. They recently won the 2019 Independent Music Award for Best Holiday Song “I’m A Child Again” and Julie was nominated for 2019 Fiddle Player of the Year by the BC Country Music Association. They released “Blindspot,” the first single from their upcoming album, on October 25.

“As songwriters, it’s fun to explore different emotions,” said Julie. “‘Blindspot’ has a message that we really connected with, that it’s important to know your own worth and to surround yourself with people who make you feel valued. The concept spoke to us as women, and we wanted to put that out into the world.”

“Blindspot” was recorded at Sound Emporium in Nashville, where they worked with many talented musicians, and Warehouse Studio in Vancouver; the sisters met Warehouse owner Bryan Adams and were able to spend some time with him.

“We were kind of freaking out; he’s one of our big idols,” admitted Julie.

“We’ve recorded this album in so many beautiful studios and with so many great people,” added Carli. “When you’re surrounded by that kind of positive energy, you can’t help but create your best music.”

The duo just wrapped up a BC school tour, where they played 34 concerts in 12 days.

“It sounds crazy, but the kids are great,” said Julie. “They give you so much energy, it’s easy to stay excited about each concert, even the third one in a single day. And we love being back in BC. We’re just soaking up the sunshine, the air, the mountains, and the ocean.”

When Twin Kennedy returns to Powell River in May, they’ll be holding some school concerts here as well, and will be in town for a few days to reconnect with the people they grew up with. “We really hope to see everyone at the album release,” said Carli. “We can’t wait to be home.”

Tickets are available now for the release party, which will take place from 7:30 to 9:30 pm at Max Cameron Theatre on Friday, May 22, 2020. VIP ticket packages for the release are also available, and include two front-row seats, a Twin Kennedy EP package, and a commemorative signed concert poster.

“Blindspot” is available for purchase on Apple Music, Spotify, iTunes and Google Play. To listen to the new single and for more information on the album release event, go to twinkennedy.com.
