Powell River Kings’ losing streak reached five games on Saturday, October 12. BC Hockey League Island Division-leading Cowichan Valley Capitals visited Hap Parker Arena and outscored the home team 6-3.
After Cowichan opened the scoring 1:25 into the game, Davis Pennington and Rowan Miller combined to set up Reilly Moran’s sixth goal of the season to tie the game at one. Cowichan regained the lead five minutes before intermission for a 2-1 lead.
Kings pressed for an equalizer early in the second period with several chances in front of Capitals’ goaltender Zach Borgiel.
Levi Glasman eventually scored his seventh goal of the season on a powerplay at 5:24; Jacob Badal and Jack Brackett picked up assists.
The 2-2 tie was short-lived, however, as Cowichan scored twice more in the middle frame to take a two-goal lead after 20 minutes, despite several more quality scoring chances from the Kings.
The third period was a mirror-image of the second, with the Kings scoring first (Hunter McCoy from Pennington and Moran) before the Capitals answered with two more goals to close out the scoring.
Attendance at Hap Parker Arena was 761.
With the win, Cowichan increased its lead to seven points over Powell River, who share third place with Alberni Valley (14 points each). All three teams have played 15 games. Nanaimo sits in second place with 17 points (12 games played), while Victoria is last with eight points through 13 games.
Kings return to the road for a pair of games this weekend. Powell River visits Surrey on Friday, October 18, and Coquitlam on Sunday, October 20.
