Squamish will be getting four more one-bedroom units of affordable housing.

On Mar. 5, council unanimously approved a housing agreement with Timeless Developments (Squamish) Ltd., Inc., to secure those units at 37762 Third Ave.

The four units make up 23.5 per cent of all residential units and 17.5 per cent of all residential gross floor area, according to a staff report.

The report adds that the 17.5 per cent percentage of gross floor area is slightly lower than the 20 per cent secured within the Land Development Agreement.

Staff, however, reasoned that getting four one-bedroom units in this location may be as beneficial as three larger units.

Coun. Jenna Stoner approved the project, but had some concerns.

"It's never exciting to see a reduction in the amount of rental units that are coming," she said.

Stoner said in the future, she'd like to make sure everyone's on the same page with respect to gross floor area versus the number of units.
