Gibsons Coun. David Croal, a crew member with Royal Canadian Marine Search and Rescue (RCM-SAR) Station 14, told council July 7 that they are now back on duty.

The marine search and rescue unit stood down in March because many of its volunteer members worked in essential services and had to focus on those duties during the pandemic.

“It took some doing, getting personal protective equipment for crew and coming up with protocols,” Croal said, adding that Station 14 has already responded to its first call – helping Sunshine Coast Search and Rescue after a woman was reported missing on Gambier Island.

The woman was found safe a short time later.
