Police Report: Garden-variety thieves hit St. Hilda’s in Sechelt

Sunshine Coast RCMP reported the following for June 30 to July 6: Between June 28 and July 1, suspects stole a number of planters and garden accessories from St. Hilda’s Church located in the 5800 block of Barnacle Street, Sechelt.

Three pale green ceramic round planters filled with plants and flowers, and two large black wrought iron garden trellises were stolen from St. Hilda’s Church in Sechelt between June 28 and July 1.

Between June 28 and July 1, suspects stole a number of planters and garden accessories from St. Hilda’s Church located in the 5800 block of Barnacle Street, Sechelt. The stolen items include three pale green ceramic round planters filled with plants and flowers, and two large black wrought iron garden trellises. Anyone with any information about this theft is asked to contact RCMP, reference police file 2020-4229.

Theft

• Sometime between June 30 and July 5, a suspect cut through fencing at a storage locker in the parkade of a building in the 5700 block of Teredo Street, Sechelt, and stole a 2019 blue Norco electric bike. The bike had paniers, front and rear lights and a battery back. Anyone with any information about this theft is asked to contact RCMP, reference police file 2020-4335. A second bike was reported stolen from the same address during the same time period. The suspect cut through a cable pad lock to steal the white folding Motorino LTF 36-volt electric bike. The bike had two saddlebags on the back that contained some hand tools. Anyone with any information about this theft is asked to contact RCMP, reference police file 2020-4369.

• Sometime in early July, a suspect stole a set of lawn furniture from a residence in the 5900 block of Skookumchuk Road, Sechelt. The furniture included matching four chairs, a table and red umbrella. Anyone with any information about this theft is asked to contact RCMP, reference police file 2020-4272.

• Between June 14 and 20, a suspect stole a bike from a residence in the 600 block of Seaview Road, Gibsons. The stolen women’s bike is described as a matte black Giant Revel-Zero with front shocks, a small seat, and a Geax front wheel. Anyone with any information about this theft is asked to contact RCMP, reference police file 2020-4172.

• On June 30 at approximately 4 p.m., a suspect stole several bags of groceries from an unlocked vehicle parked in the 5600 block of Cowrie Street, Sechelt. The owner had placed her groceries in the back of her vehicle and walked away from the unlocked vehicle for just a minute.

• Overnight on July 5, a suspect stole a bike and a number of tools from a residence in the 5700 block of Surf Circle, Sechelt. The stolen bike is described as a men’s black Brodie Tesla with aftermarket water bottle holder and seat. The suspect removed a lock from a shed to steal the tools, which include a cordless drill, and a Dremel with accessories. Anyone with any information about this theft is asked to contact RCMP, reference police file 2020-4347.

Break and Enter

• Between June 28 and July 2, suspects gained access to a residence in the 6200 block of North Lake Road, Egmont, by breaking a window. The suspects stole a large number of items, including a generator, camping tools, two kayaks and a key. Anyone with any information about this break and enter is asked to contact RCMP, reference police file 2020-4273.

• Overnight on July 3, a suspect cut through some screening to gain access into a greenhouse located at the elementary school in Davis Bay. The suspect appears to have eaten some of the produce being grown in the greenhouse and left behind a portable speaker.

Mischief

• Overnight on July 1, a suspect smashed a glass door at a business in the 5600 block of Wharf Avenue, Sechelt. It doesn’t appear that any entry to the premises was gained, and no other damage was reported. Police are reviewing security video footage and the file is still under investigation.

Impaired Driving

• On July 3, police initiated a traffic stop with a possible impaired driver in the 600 block of Gibsons Way, Gibsons, after witnessing the vehicle driving at a slow speed and coming to a hard stop for no apparent reason. Police noted the driver exhibiting signs of possible intoxication from alcohol and gave the driver a roadside alcohol screening test. After both a fail and warn result, the driver was issued a three-day Immediate Roadside Prohibition and his vehicle was impounded. The matter has been referred to RoadSafetyBC.

• Late on July 3, police witnessed a vehicle leaving a business near Marine Drive, Gibsons, that did not have either its head or taillights illuminated. Police initiated a traffic stop and noted the driver exhibiting signs of intoxication from alcohol. After failing a roadside alcohol screening test, the driver was issued a 90-day Immediate Roadside Prohibition and his vehicle was impounded for 30 days. The matter has been referred to RoadSafetyBC.
