Sunshine Coast RCMP reported the following for Nov. 11 to 18:
On Nov. 12, police attended a suspicious incident report in Madeira Park after a resident noticed a deer head tied up in a tree. Police spoke with the property owner, who advised the head was being prepared for mounting and that the exposure was part of the process. The owner did agree to move the head to a more discreet location to prevent further calls from concerned citizens.
Theft of Vehicle
• Late on Nov. 18, a suspect stole a vehicle parked in the 5500 block of Highway 101, Sechelt. The vehicle, which had been left unlocked with the keys inside, is described as a green 1996 Pontiac Sunfire two-door sedan with a dented hood and one broken headlight. The B.C. licence plate on the vehicle was HV506N. Anyone with any information about this incident is asked to contact RCMP, reference police file 2019-7971.
Mail Theft
• Overnight on Nov. 17, a suspect gained entry to Canada Post community mailboxes located at Oracle Road and Mika Road and on the corner of Julmar Road and Baillie Road, Sechelt. The suspect pried the back doors open to access the contents and it is unknown what has been stolen. Anyone with any information about this incident is asked to contact RCMP, reference police file 2019-7929.
Break and Enter
• Overnight on November 14, suspects gained entry to a business in the 6000 block of Lighthouse Avenue, Sechelt, by forcing open doors into the building. The suspects stole an unknown amount of alcohol and cash, keys, and damaged several doors handles and furniture. The file is still under investigation. Anyone with any information about this incident is asked to contact RCMP, reference police file 2019-7865.
• Overnight on Nov. 12, a suspect gained entry to a building in the 6000 block of Silverstone Lane, Sechelt, and stole a number of power tools including a blower, a Makita hammer drill, batteries and charger.
• On Nov. 13, an off-duty police officer noticed a suspicious vehicle, described as an old green SUV, in a storage lot near Cascade Crescent and Cook Place, Sechelt. The vehicle left shortly after and so the officer went to check the property and noticed that the lock on the compound’s gate had been cut off. It doesn’t appear anything was stolen or damaged.
Attempted Gas Theft
• Overnight on Nov. 13, a suspect stole, or attempted to steal, gas from vehicles parked in the 6200 block of Oracle Road, 5700 block of Emily Way and 5800 block of Nickerson Road, Sechelt. The suspect drilled holes in two of the fuel tanks to steal the fuel. Anyone with any information about these incidents is asked to contact RCMP, reference police file 2019-7844.
Fraud
• On Nov. 13, a Coast resident reported a fraud after responding to a for-sale ad in a popular online classifieds. The resident communicated with the purported seller by email and phone and agreed to pay a deposit. The resident also requested a viewing of the item before completing the sale. After receiving the deposit, the bogus seller gave the resident the supposed address to the business on Vancouver Island. The resident travelled to Vancouver Island and went to the address, only to find himself in a residential area. The resident tried to contact the seller to confirm the address. The seller did not respond to emails or phone messages.
Collision
• On Nov. 12, a resident in the 1500 block of Langdale Road, Langdale, reported a motor vehicle incident after hearing a loud scraping sound and looking out to see a power pole leaning over the road near a semi-truck. Police spoke with the semi-truck driver who advised he’d come around a corner and the rear axle of his trailer went into the ditch and struck the pole. The local volunteer fire department and BC Hydro crews also attended to assist and right the pole. The matter has been referred to ICBC.
Found Property
• On Nov. 12, a cell phone that had been found in a green space near Capilano University and the Sechelt Seniors Centre was turned in. Owner may claim with detailed description within 90 days. Please reference police file 2019-7813.
• On Nov. 15, a video game that had been left on a Sunshine Coast transit bus was turned in. Owner may claim with detailed description within 90 days. Please reference police file 2019-7895.
• On Nov. 13, a men’s ring found in Sechelt was turned in. Owner may claim within 90 days with a detailed description. Please reference police file 2019-7845.
Theft
• On Nov. 14, a theft was reported at a business in the 4300 block of Sunshine Coast Hwy. after a staff member witnessed the suspect possibly shoplifting a jacket. Surveillance video footage confirmed the suspect had taken the item and left the premises without paying for it. Police located the suspect nearby and the stolen item was recovered. The suspect has been banned from the business and is still under investigation for theft under $5,000.
Impaired Driving
• On Nov. 15, police witnessed a vehicle driving more than 30 kilometres over the speed limit on Pratt Road, Gibsons. Police initiated a traffic stop and noticed the driver exhibiting signs of possible impairment by alcohol. The driver, who advised he’d consumed alcohol shortly before driving, was given a roadside alcohol screening test and received a warn result. The driver was issued a three-day immediate roadside prohibition. The matter has been referred to RoadSafetyBC.
