Sechelt Mayor Darnelda Siegers and J.P. d’Aigle of the United Canadian Métis Nation, along with Terry and George Goulet, enlist the help of students from L’Ecole du Pacifique to raise the Métis flag at Sechelt municipal hall Nov. 15. At its last meeting, Sechelt council proclaimed Nov. 16, the anniversary the death of Louis Riel in 1885, as “Louis Riel Day” in Sechelt, declaring Riel “a humanitarian and an advocate for the Métis people, and one of the Métis people’s foremost historic leaders who strove for justice and the rights of the Métis people as Manitoba joined Confederation.”
