Crews started working this week to remove the Kwatna, one of the most conspicuous derelict vessels in the Pender Harbour area.

The Pender Harbour and Area Residents Association announced in August that it had been awarded the contract for the removal of the Kwatna as well as the Lulu Island.

The total cost for the removal of both vessels is estimated at $84,551. Of that, 75 per cent will be covered by a $75,675 grant from the federal government and the residents association will cover the balance through contributions of labour from board members, existing funds, and other fundraising efforts.
