BC Hydro crews and Prince George Fire Rescue personnel were sent scrambling Tuesday afternoon to deal with a flurry of power outages and downed lines across the Prince George area as high winds blew through the region.

About 7,000 homes in nearly three dozen outages have been without power as of 3:30 p.m. Tuesday and according to the BC Hydro outages page on their website  it said on Wednesday morning that all available crews are working round the clock to repair the damage with many outages still in Prince George and Summit Lake. Updates can be found at bchydro.com/outages.

"We don't quite know who at this point but we could be in for some customers being out overnight," Hydro spokesperson Bob Gammer said. "It's probably in the areas further out from Prince George - rural areas of Prince George - but again it's probably a little early yet to say who."

Environment Canada reported winds of 42 km/h gusting to 91 km/h, coming from the west as of 2 p.m. Tuesday.

"It was breezy this morning and it wasn't causing any trouble in the Prince George area but to the west we could see Burns Lake getting hit, we could see Vanderhoof getting hit and the storm was coming closer and so it was quite clear we were going to get it as well," Gammer said.
