The rain will continue to fall today, Environment Canada said in a special weather statement.

It said an easterly flow associated with a deep Alberta flow will continue to stream moisture across the Rocky Mountains and into B.C., and deliver as much as 40-60 mm of rain over the Williston, McGregor, and Cariboo regions.

"Most of these regions have already received significant amounts of rain over the past 24 hours, ranging from 15 to 30 mm, with higher amounts over the mountains, locally up to 30-50 mm.

"As the main band of organized rainfall slides further North, rain will end rapidly this morning across the Cariboo but persist along an axis extending from Williston to Prince George to Blue River. "

Even if the rainfall is not exceptionally heavy it could still have an impact on river levels, the agency said, adding there is significant concern for high flows in the Quesnel River (Cariboo Mountains), the North Thompson (Blue River/Clearwater region), and South Thompson (Shuswap).

The Fraser River's level at South Fort George stood at 8.158 metres as of shortly after 9 a.m. this morning, below the peak of 9.3 metres reached last Friday afternoon according to Environment Canada measurements posted online.
