Kamloops athletes Matt Dunstone and Greg Stewart will benefit from national athletics funding programs.
Dunstone, a curler who aims to qualify for the 2022 Olympic Winter Games in Beijing, is one of 55 athletes selected by Petro-Canada, the Canadian Olympic Committee, Canadian Paralympic Committee and the Coaching Association of Canada to receive a Fuelling Athletes and Coaching Excellence Program grant.
Athletes and their coaches are awarded $10,000 ($5,000 to the athlete and $5,000 to their coach) to help with costs athletes often have to pay out of pocket, such as equipment and competition travel expenses.
Recipients are selected based on potential.
Stewart, who will compete for Canada in shot put at the postponed 2020 Paralympic Summer Games later this month in Tokyo, will receive support from the Canadian Athletes Now Fund.
