Brackendale Art Gallery

Owned and operated since 1973 by Thor and Dorte Froslev, the “BAG,” as locals call it, is the unofficial cultural hub of Squamish. The Froslevs were instrumental in getting the annual Bald Eagle Festival (with the all-important bird count) happening in the community of Brackendale. Lying at the confluence of the Squamish and Cheakamus Rivers, much of the gallery’s artwork on display is influenced by the impressive avian species that is most often seen feeding on the salmon runs each January.

The Froslevs’ art gallery/restaurant houses an eclectic permanent collection as well as featuring seasonal presentations in a wide variety of mixed media. The restaurant has always utilized local produce, decades before the latest craze in farm-to-table dining became popular. Some of Canada’s top roots/folk/blues acts (Paperboys, High Bar Gang, Jim Byrnes) light up the stage and the impromptu dance floor, and there’s even live theatre; check the website for the monthly schedule.
