Dawson Creek Junior Canucks hockey school a success

A week long hockey school took place on August 26-30th in Tumbler Ridge held by Dawson Creek Junior Canucks, DC Minor Hockey Association, and facilitated by BCSSA Master Referee and President Rob Huttema.

Huttema said there are 94 players registered in three different age groups ranging from 6-14 years. Players traveled from Dawson Creek, Chetwynd, Fort St John, Moberly Lake, Saddle Hills and Grande Prairie.

Players are enjoying both ice and dry land training. Lauralee Cooper heads the dry land instruction, Colby Wagar the general manager, and Gene Cooper as the head coach.

Players are learning all hockey related skills and having a skills competition. Lunches for the players were provided by Tumbler Ridge’s local restaurant: Game on Eatzzeria. Families are camping, hiking, and enjoying the local town services. What a great family event, start to the hockey year and great turn out, said Huttema.

This is the first year for the school in Tumbler with hopes to return. Check Dawson Creek Minor Hockey's website for all scheduled events.

Huttema would like to thank the District of Tumbler Ridge and the amazing support from all the communities for junior hockey
