Holiday thieves target Savanna mailboxes

Outdoor mailboxes are again being targeted by thieves - deck the halls.

A series of boxes were vandalized in Savanna, Alberta.

“Unfortunately, Savanna did get hit. Their post offices boxes were broken into. It’s that time year, with Christmas coming,” said Spirit River RCMP.

All but one box was pried open, with the grinches making off with the goods.

Canada Post confirmed the mailboxes were located at 10019 Highway 681 near Savanna and were vandalized over the weekend.

“This incident has been reported to the Spirit River RCMP and our customers are being notified,” wrote Nicole Lecompte, Media Relations for Canada Post.

“As a result of this incident a number of community mailbox compartments are not operational. They will be repaired as soon as possible.” In the meantime, residents can pick up their mail at Spirit River Post Office, through flex delivery.
