Honing joining US ladies softball team

Dawson Creek’s Roxy Honing is joining the North West Warriors for Team USA softball action.

She will be starting with the team playing left center field this weekend, traveling to St.George, Utah for the US World Games on October 14.

There will be an anticipated 10,000 athletes playing, with potential for Honing’s team to play approximately 15 games.

Coming in November of this year Honing will travel with the team to Phoenix, Arizona for the US Winter Games.

“I’m humbled, it’s overwhelming to have this life experience and opportunity. The support over the years that I’ve received from our small community, all the sponsorship from local businesses, my family and friends I am very appreciative and I wouldn’t be here without that support,” Honing says.

She comes from a family of baseball players remembering fondly if playing as a kid in a cow pasture. She has been involved in the sport her entire life, raising her family and continuing to play with her yearly family team The Apple Dumpling gang, here in the DC slow pitch league.  “Playing with my family brings me back to the fun of it” says Honing.

In the past Honing has competed at the Senior B Provincials, Co-ed Canada Worlds in Kamloops, and the 2017 Canada Worlds in Hamilton and has played with the Lady Brawlerz from Grande Prairie.

For many years Honing has also coached youth ball, soccer, volleyball to name a few.

“I believe in following your passion and doing what you love, if you follow your heart you can be successful.I’m honored to represent my community, our province and our country.”
