MLA work - a virtual virtue these days

South Peace MLA Mike Bernier finds himself trucking on the World Wide Web more and more often these days.

Last week Bernier, along with North Peace MLA Dan Davies took part in a handful of Zoom rooms concerning area transportation and labour issues, and more.

Matters such as Alaska Highway safety and twinning projects, the South Taylor Hill, rural roads, and more were discussed.

“It was a bit of House duty,” says Bernier, who says the previous week was a positive one for provincial government pundits.

“We are starting to hold government account and they are addressing issues instead of a COVID only focus for the last few months.”

Bernier says home school funding cuts have really stretched Peace Region parents.

“The NDP cuts this portion of the portfolio by $12 million. The affects many in the region who have chosen to home school,” says Bernier, who as a former Education Minister, is overtly familiar with education issues in BC.

Discussions around the Taylor Bridge also occurred, with Transportation Minister Claire Trevena noting the government was working towards a replacement bridge, with geotechnical work continuing this fall.
